Day 2 – Chengdu → Dujiangyan: A Hydraulic Engineering Marvel
Today, we’ll visit three key highlights: the Ancient City of Guanghan, Nanqiao Bridge, and the Dujiangyan Irrigation Scenic Area, where we’ll experience millennia of hydraulic engineering wisdom and the vibrant local life of western Sichuan.
The Ancient City of Guanghan is the historic heart of Dujiangyan, preserving the architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. With its cobblestone streets, street food stalls, and handicrafts, you’ll quickly immerse yourself in the local way of life and savor the laid-back charm of this ancient town.
“Nanqiao Bridge”—known as “Western Sichuan’s Premier Covered Bridge”—spans the Min River and is a must-visit landmark. Standing on the bridge, you can look down upon the river below, taking in the spectacular scenery.
Finally, we’ll visit the Dujiangyan Scenic Area. This UNESCO World Heritage Site centers on the irrigation system built over 2,000 years ago by Li Bing and his son. Through its three key structures—the Fish Mouth, the Flying Sand Weir, and the Bottle Neck—it automatically diverts river water to both control flooding and irrigate the land, creating the “Land of Abundance.” Seeing it in person is truly awe-inspiring, offering a firsthand glimpse into the wisdom of ancient people.

Afterward, we’ll experience Chinese tea culture, tasting authentic Sichuan tea and observing the simple tea ceremony process to appreciate the leisurely and elegant nature of Chinese tea culture.

A half-hour walk from there will bring you to the summit, where you can take in the breathtaking mountain scenery. Along the way, you can also visit ancient Taoist temples and experience the profound heritage of millennia-old Taoist culture and the wisdom of our ancestors.
